This Chaveyo Ogre Kachina doll is a wonderful piece of art to add to your Native American collection! This is a first Mesa variation of Chaveyo. He can appear at Water Serpent Ceremony and in mixed Kachina dance. This Kachina doll was carved by Hopi artist Peter Shelton Jr in the early 1970's. Peter Shelton, Jr. is widely recognized as one of the major carvers of Katsina dolls in the mid-20th century. He and his brother, Henry Shelton, are names recognized by collectors of older carvings. He contributed to a style of more detail such as folds in kilts and shirts.
